Lake Whitney

This weekend we camped at Lake Whitney with our friends, Dave and Julia, and their kids, Taylor and Lindsey, and their dog, Tia.
Ry and Taylor playing cornhole (yep, we finished 'em)
Sitting around the fire

Saturday we went out on their boat- it was a blast! We wake boarded for the first time. I got up on my 2nd try!! Although it was HOT, the water was refreshing and it was wonderful to spend some time outdoors with friends!!

Taking a dip! Isn't Tia cute on her little surf board??

Did you know there are over 1000 different kinds of spiders in Texas??

I think about half of them live in or near our house. Luckily only brown recluse and black widows are the poisonous ones around here! So far, we haven't seen any of them. These little (Did I say little? I mean huge, disgusting, creepy) guys were just hanging out Friday.

You just never know what you are going to find lurking around the corner...yuck!

Weekend Warriors

Now that the wedding and honeymoon are past, we have gotten a chance to start a lot of projects that we have been planning for the house. Notice I say start... completing them has turned out to be more complicated than we initially expected :)

First things first- we needed a workbench! (This was a
June 5th project and the night we caught project fever).
I have to give Ry some major props here. He had
this plan in his head and it came together beautifully
with the help of a pretty marvelous partner :)

Voila!
Last night we officially made it a workbench by adding...
a pegboard (and tools).

Cutting down our jungle of a back yard...finally.

The Never Ending Project: cornhole boards

Start Date: June 5, 2009

Estimated Time of Completion: Realistically...never

Here is Ryan cutting the legs...again.

Some other projects we have tackled:
GUTTERS - what fun!

We probably made four trips to Lowes just to be
able to finish these.

Now, we are just waiting for the rain :)

Contrary to what may appear, Ry is not the only one
that gets down and dirty. I am sure you all understand
someone must take the pictures! I have actually learned
the names of and how to use each and every tool that we
own- this stuff is really fun!!!!

FLOWER BED BORDER

Then, yesterday, we decided to wrap around the
landscaping, dig out the sod, and lay some more!!

Now we just need some plants...

HOSE HANGERS...check it off.

Drilling into brick is fun!

Well, we are getting there! Hopefully one day we'll be able to say, "we are done!" I have heard that will never happen though, but I am okay with that. It's good to stay busy :)

Just some more pictures from Mexico

At the beach

Honeymoon Fun

While in Mexico we went on a really cool snorkeling trip. The "Mayan Snorkel Adventure" involved three different stops: the brackish waters, the cenote, and the lagoon. For those who don't know, brackish (meaning salty) waters are where the fresh water meets the salty ocean water. This was quite an interesting place with some truly gorgeous inhabitants. As we got farther out toward the ocean we were able to see some beautiful reef, two sea turtles, and a sting ray! Hopefully some of our pictures from the underwater camera will turn out and you can see what I mean. The middle picture below is near where we entered to snorkel the brackish waters. The other two pictures below are from the cenote. The Mayans consider cenotes to be sacred and I can see why, they do have a very mystical and serene feel. However, entering the, how did they put it? Ah, yes, "refreshing" water in the cenote did not initially make my body feel serene :) Last, we stopped at the lagoon (above), which is really just an old cenote that has collapsed. You can see that they put together a little place to jump (about 25 feet I think) as well as a zipline. The lagoon was really more about fun and relaxation, but we did snorkel a little and there were some really pretty cichlids. All in all - it was a fantastic trip, and we made it back to the resort in time to sit at the beach and have a few drinks before dinner!!

Welcome...

We had such a blast on our honeymoon! A getaway was desperately needed. For those who didn't know, we went to a resort in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. It was beautiful.
